Surviving A Family Photoshoot: What You Need To Know

advice from a brisbane FAMILY photographer

If you've ever tried to take a family photo, then you know how crazy it can be. Families are constantly busy, with everyone running around all the time. It's hard to find the time to get everyone together for a photoshoot—and when you do finally get everyone together, you have to deal with your kids' moods and behaviour on top of everything else.

But there is hope! We're going to show you how to survive your next Brisbane family photoshoot by using these simple tricks that will help keep everyone happy and relaxed (and hopefully avoid any major meltdowns).

Bring Snacks

Kids are kids — they love food! And if you're trying to get a good photo of your kiddos, chances are they'll be more cooperative if they're not starving (or hangry). Bring some of their favourite snacks and keep them in a nearby bag so you can offer them as needed throughout the shoot.

Dress Comfortably

When it comes to dressing kids for family photos, comfort is key. You want the clothes they're wearing to be soft, lightweight and breathable — not too tight or restrictive, which can make kids feel uncomfortable or even cranky.

Bribery is A-okay!

You can bribe anyone with anything — just make sure the bribe is something they like!

I'm not talking about paying them a salary, but offering a small token of appreciation after the shoot. This could be some lollies, a dollar or even an extra story at bedtime.

I know it's hard—believe me, I get it. (As a photographer myself, I often struggle to get my own family members to participate in photoshoots.) But these few tips are great places for you to start!

Don't keep putting off having your family photographed because of the difficulty —you never know how many more opportunities you'll have to be together.

One day, family photographs may be all that your children have left of you.
